A lifelong artist, Denise Siegel has studied drawing, figurative sculpture, printmaking, and oil painting.
Denise celebrates every medium by illuminating the process to achieve each finished piece. Brushstrokes are revealed rather than smoothed away. Woodcuts unveil the intrinsic wood grain. Each medium’s essential value and freshness are celebrated; subject matter is simplified to showcase the feeling, the essence that Denise intends to convey.
“Process Bared”, an upcoming exhibition of Denise’s oil paintings, will be Friday, July 12 and Saturday, July 13 at VibrantCast Gallery, 4313 N. Lincoln Av., Chicago.
“My intention is to celebrate the medium by illuminating the artistic process,” Denise explains. “Your experience with my artwork should be evocative! My goal is to connect you, the viewer, directly to the process of creating art.”

Abstracts
I love gesture and movement. Shapes and colors are endlessly engaging and interesting. When is an abstract work completed? When I decide to stop after studying the piece intermittently for days, even weeks, and am satisfied with the result – for now.

Florals
Conveying how evocative florals can be is my interest and goal. I zoom in to feature a detail and use brush strokes gesturally. It’s all about feeling the beauty.

Landscapes
I’m fascinated with the landscapes of other painters and how they “see” what’s in front of them. My focus is on controlling colors, strokes and details that put you in that place!

Figurative
Dynamic anatomy – the interactive movement of the body – has always fascinated me. I’ve studied the figure since I was a child, from copying drawings by the masters to endlessly sketching my own hand. I have drawn, sculpted, woodcut, etched, monotyped, and painted figures in a variety of poses and backgrounds.

Portraits
A portrait only works if it looks like the person being interpreted! I look and modify, and look and modify, until the subject emerges and the client sees that person in the painting.
